Sèrgio Costabile

Adults & Kids Coach

Brown Belt 3rd Degree

Welcome to Sérgio Costábile’s martial arts journey, where dedication and discipline pave the way to success. Sérgio embarked on this incredible path in 2012, at Ryan Gracie Jiu Jitsu in Granja Vianna in Brazil. Initially motivated by weight loss. However, what started as a fitness journey quickly transformed into a deep fascination for the art of Jiu-Jitsu. He achieved his blue belt there in 2016.

Sérgio moved to Australia in 2016 where he found Arte Suave, and immediately emersed himself in Jiu Jitsu, he was the quiet shy Brazilian with lots of energy. In 2017 he achieved his Purple Belt under Anker Fuglsang and in December 2020 he achieved his Brown belt under Uroš Čulić.

Driven by his love for the discipline and the transformative impact it has on individuals, in 2021 Sérgio made the decision to share his knowledge and teach martial arts. His classes are tailored to be as accessible as possible, focusing on simplicity and effective techniques.

Sérgio’s teaching philosophy centers on developing key areas such as fluid movements, balance, and body alignment. By incorporating exercises such as training with closed eyes or limiting the use of specific limbs, he encourages students to explore their bodies in a more aligned and holistic way.

Why should you join Sérgio’s classes? The answer lies in his passion for empowering individuals through martial arts. Sérgio’s dedication and experience create an environment where students can grow not only in their physical abilities but also in their mental resilience and self-confidence.

For those preparing to compete for the first time, Sérgio offers valuable advice. Drawing from his own challenging experiences, he emphasizes the importance of perseverance, mental preparation, and maintaining a positive mindset. With Sérgio as your guide, you can navigate the competitive arena with confidence.

Reflecting on his first memory of training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Sérgio recalls it as a truly transformative experience. The challenges he faced pushed him beyond his limits, allowing him to discover his inner strength and determination. This pivotal moment shaped his journey and ignited his lifelong commitment to the art.

What sets Arte Suave apart from other gyms is the sense of family and belonging. For Sérgio, it is more than just a training facility; it is a supportive community where members uplift and motivate each other. The camaraderie at Arte Suave fosters an environment conducive to growth and achievement.

Sérgio’s dedication and hard work have led to numerous accomplishments in competitive grappling. Among his notable achievements are gold medals at Grappling Industries Brisbane 2022, QBJJC Gold Coast Championship 2021, AFBJJ / QBJJC Queensland State Championship 2020, QBJJC South Pacific Championship 2020, and BJJ Australian Open 2019.

Join Sérgio Costábile’s martial arts classes today and embark on a transformative journey of self-discovery, physical fitness, and personal growth. Under Sérgio’s expert guidance, you will unlock your true potential, one technique at a time.

I was looking for a BJJ club in Brisbane after relocating from Dublin, and I tried a few ones, but once I got a call from Emanuela, I knew straight away how serious about BJJ Arte Suave is. And that happened even before having my first trial class; just by a phone conversation with her I felt reassured that there was the place I was looking for to resume my lessons. At Arte Suave, I feel supported by staff and members alike, and most importantly, I feel respected regardless of my level, limitations and challenges. BJJ as a martial art is taken really seriously, and I feel I can learn a lot from everyone there in a safe, welcoming and friendly environment. Thanks, Arte Suave, for the great work you all do, and keep it up! What a beautiful place Arte Suave is! When I joined I had no background in any martial arts and I took up the 3-class pass on a whim. But now I can’t seem to get enough of it.The deep knowledge of the professors, the seamless learning structure of the classes, and the warm and helpful community at AS is the perfect mix I could have asked for.If you are looking to start your BJJ journey then come speak to Emanuela, come sit around at AS and get a feel of how incredible this place is.

Great coaches, great people and great rolls! Best club I’ve been to in Aus. If you’re looking for an open mat on the weekend they are the best in Bris for sure and run Sat and Sunday.

I started my BJJ journey back in 2008 and took a very long break and had resigned to the fact that my BJJ days were over.At AS, I was made to feel very welcome and the technical level of the instructors and students gave me confidence that I was in a safe environment where I could go at my own pace , enjoy it and still improve without the fear of injury. The in house physio is also amazing and it’s enabled me to bullet proof my legs and get my confidence back into rolling as now in my 50s as I had started to loose muscle mass and was worried about knee strain.. I am now back on track , enjoying making long lasting friends and overjoyed to be part of this amazing gym and community.
